Real Estate

Bourbon County is well-known for the number of lovingly preserved houses that stretch over several styles from log and stone houses to more ornate Italianate and Victorian homes. Buying one of these properties will give you the advantages of the craftsmanship of yesterday updated with the modern conveniences of today.

New subdivisions have been built and several other areas are currently under construction, offering a wide range of housing styles and prices. Controlled growth in the more rural areas of the county has added many homes and a large, new development of stately brick homes has sprouted around the Houston Oaks Golf course.
For smaller families, single people, and retirees there are several attractive town home developments that offer a comfortable lifestyle and low maintenance.
For commuters, the four-laning of the Paris/Lexington Road has made the 17-mile drive to Lexington very quick, easy, and scenic!

Many working families, the elderly, and the disabled are spending too much of their income on rent. Bourbon County has a program to help families who are having difficulty paying rent and utilities in addition to taking care of their basic needs such as food and medical care. The program is Section 8 Housing Assistance, and it provides rental assistance for 470 families in Bourbon County. The funding for this program comes from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Eligibility for Section 8 assistance is based on family size and income. The elderly, disabled, and persons who work are given first priority in receiving assistance. In addition to making housing affordable, the Section 8 program also improves the quality of housing, increases housing choices, promotes family self-sufficiency, and ensures fair housing opportunity. Additional information is available at the agency office in Room 127, 525 High Street, Paris, or by calling 987-2108. (The Section 8 Housing Office is a Member of the Chamber of Commerce)
